For more than a decade, SavATree has enjoyed a productive relationship with the Chicago Botanic Garden. As Principal Tree Health Care Partner and Sponsor, SavATree helps the Garden keep its vast collection of trees healthy through proper pruning, cabling and bracing. Crown thinning and hazard pruning help ensure the safety of visitors and their property, as do storm damage prevention and remediation services, large and/or technical tree removals and assistance in emergency situations.
Also in connection with this sponsorship, SavATree provides training to Garden horticulture and grounds staff and assists them with special projects. SavATree holds several educational events in conjunction with the Garden, including an annual seminar for landscape professionals and property managers each February. Guided Tree Tours and Ask An Arborist booths throughout the year have also been established to provide information to Garden guests. Most recently, SavATree arborists hosted an Ask An Arborist booth on Mother’s Day where they held a raffle for tree, shrub or lawn care and handed out white pine seedlings as gifts.
When the Garden had a need to transform their approach to plant health data management, they called on The Consulting Group at SavATree. For this project, The Consulting Group helped the Garden to transition from their existing paper system to a digital mapping system customized for plant health care management. Now, dozens of plant health management projects are planned and tracked through digital mapping and real time data entry.
When Emerald Ash Borer appeared on the scene in Chicago, the Garden partnered with SavATree to help manage and treat their prized ash collection. SavATree assumed the role of EAB Management Partner, a multi-faceted task that included developing an affordable multi-year plan for treatment and take-downs, as well as advancing local EAB awareness and education. Ultimately, SavATree and the Garden collaborated to provide guidance and share lessons learned as ash trees in other areas of the country became threatened by Emerald Ash Borer.
SavATree is privileged to count The Chicago Botanic Garden among its clients. Open for more than 40 years, The Garden has matured into one of the world’s great living museums and conservation science centers with more than one million visitors annually. Its living plant collection consists of 2.6 million accessioned and mapped plants, of which 14,671 are trees.
Whether in seminars, tree tours or Ask An Arborist booths, SavATree arborists enjoy sharing their knowledge and expertise with Garden visitors. SavATree also offers chain saw training and air spade training, including root zone excavation and vertical mulching, to Garden staff.
