Crabapples

These pictures  show crabapples visible from our clients property.

The picture on the left shows what heavy Spring and Summer rainfall can do to an ornamental tree species sensitive to foliar fungal diseases. The ornamental apple on the left is pruned and thinned regularly as well as covered under a disease treatment program. The other image shows a tree of the same species roughly 50 feet away on the neighbors property. The difference is obvious. Our clients tree retains its energy investment in its foliage, and has the ability to stockpile more energy for beautiful blooming and foliage next year. The neighbors tree will not be as vigorous without the energy it could have reabsorbed from healthy leaves, or the new energy that could have stored through the Winter. Thinning of the canopy would allow more air flow and would reduce the severity of fungal infection even without disease treatments.
